Rains put 5 municipalities in Maranhão in a state of emergency

Five municipalities in Maranhão have already declared an emergency due to heavy rains in the state of the Northeast, as reported by the Integrated Disaster Information System (S2ID). The municipalities in this situation are Mirador, Grajaú, Barra do Corda, Jatobá and Paraibano.

In the municipality of Mirador, the flood of the Itapecuru River left at least 203 families homeless and homeless. An operation to help the population is already being carried out by the Fire Department in conjunction with the Secretary of State for Cities (SECID).

The firefighters’ priority is the removal of people from risky areas and the distribution of food and medicine to those affected.

In Imperatriz, which has not yet declared an emergency, the level of the Tocantins River has exceeded 9 meters in the Cais do Porto region and 236 families are homeless and displaced.

The Third Battalion of Military Firefighters works to move these families to safe places and distribute food.

In the cities of Trizidela do Vale and Pedreiras, the Mearim river reached the 4.89 meter mark, still lower than the warning mark, but with an upward trend.
