Heavy rains hit the city of Manaus last Tuesday (13). According to the city hall, a street collapsed and a total of 30 incidents were recorded. In addition to the collapse, there were landslides and flooding in several parts of the city.
Rua Croácia, located in the Nova Cidade neighborhood, North Zone of Manaus, collapsed. According to the city hall, the site has already received attention from the public authorities in June 2023. However, the road faced a process of progressive erosion due to the rains, which resulted in its collapse.
Aiming to accommodate residents in the region of the collapse, the city hall said it relocated some families to temporary housing with the support of the Municipal Secretariat for Women, Social Assistance and Citizenship (Semasc).
The Municipal Secretariat of Public Security and Social Defense (Semseg) reported that the Municipal Civil Defense is still on the streets responding to all incidents registered at its Central 199 and on duty, following instructions from Mayor David Almeida, to ensure the safety of affected families.
Other recorded calls included landslides and flooding throughout the city, such as in the Jorge Teixeira neighborhood, East Zone of the capital.
Civil Defense is also closely monitoring the situation of the streams, whose obstruction has contributed to the flooding. Cleaning and unblocking measures are being coordinated together with the Municipal Department of Urban Cleaning (Semulsp).
