Strict message to Israel sent his president IranIbrahim Raisi, noting that it crossed “red lines” with the massive attacks against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, which “could lead other sides to take action”.
Tehran supports the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, which has been at war with Israel since October 7, following its unprecedented deadly attack on Israeli soil.
In retaliation, Israel has been shelling the Gaza Strip non-stop since then, and has recently stepped up its shelling.
“The crimes of the Zionist regime have crossed red lines, which could prompt everyone else to take action.”Iranian President Raisi warned in a post on social media X (formerly Twitter).
“Washington asked us to do nothing, but they continue to offer broad support to Israel”he added.
In an interview he gave to the Al Jazeera television network, Raishi clarified that “Iran sees it as its duty to support the axis of resistance”which includes armed organizations such as Hamas or Hezbollah in Lebanon.
“But,” he added, “resistance organizations are independent in their views, their decisions and their actions.”
Washington has blamed Iran for part of the blame for attacks in recent days targeting the US military in Syria and Iraq, in which about twenty US soldiers were wounded.
US President Joe Biden warned in a “direct message” to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei against any new attacks by these groups.
“The US knows very well our capabilities, military, and they know that it is impossible to defeat them”Raisi warned in his interview with Qatar Network.
Iran hailed the “success” of the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israeli soil, while stressing at the same time that it was not involved.
For Raisi, “countries that do not support the Palestinians should explain why they do not defend those who are killed in the legitimate defense of their country and their land.”
