Rape of Palermo, the group’s accusations against the girl: “She asked us to have relations”

Angelo Flores “didn’t touch me, but limited himself to filming the scene with his cell phone”, explained the girl, convinced that the young man got rid of that video “because he was scared to see my condition”. Flores does not appear, precisely because she is filming the rape, but her voice is heard encouraging her friends, with vulgar expressions, to continue the violence. In front of the judges, the group lost all their bravado. Everyone weeps, aware that they have gotten themselves into a very serious situation, but they still don’t stop pointing the finger at the victim of their violence. Christian Maronia asks for “the girl’s forgiveness”, adding however that “she asked us to have intercourse, she agreed. I did not know her. It was the first time I’d seen her, but Angelo had told me that she was one of hers that she was there for it ». The interceptions, however, dismantle his version of the facts: on the phone, the young man, in a conversation with two other suspects, states: “She didn’t want to, she said ‘no enough’!”.

Even Gabriele Di Trapani, before the judges of the Review Court, rejected all the accusations, arguing that it would have been the victim who proposed to go to the Foro Italico and that she would be fully compliant with group sex. The young man also declared that the 19-year-old also asked to change direction, so as not to be seen by her boyfriend, who works in a club in the historic center.

To confirm the violence too the doctor who rescued the Palermo rape victim: «When I arrived, the patient was shocked, disoriented. She reported pain in an area consistent with possible violence. She did not want to mention the name of the boy with whom she was to meet at Vucciria. She also told me that she told the barman: “Don’t listen to them, don’t keep giving me a drink”, and then she told of the violence. The injuries found are compatible with what the girl told and are compatible with violence. Even if there were no sexual injuries this would not mean the incompatibility of a rape, but simply that the state of drunkenness affects the ability to self-defense and opposition.
