Rapist induced into temptation, Switzerland against the shock sentence

It is an appeal process that causes the whole of Switzerland to discuss and protest. In this rape trial, there appears to be a blaming of the victim. The violence dates back to February. It happened in Basel. A Portuguese citizen and a minor who met the victim in a club and abused her in her home were sentenced at first instance. The first was sentenced to 4 and a half years of imprisonment, but nothing for the minor prison. Now on appeal there is a reduction of the sentence.

The president of the court of appeal, Liselotte Henz, reduced the sentence by a year and a half. It is the motivation to make people argue. “You have sent contradictory signals, playing with fire,” said the judge according to what is reported by the Republic. The Swiss Criminal Code it allows the judge to reduce a sentence “in the event that the perpetrator has been seriously induced into temptation”. There was a protest demonstration in front of the court.

The socialist senator, Marina Carobbio, told Swiss public television that “there is an urgent need to adapt the criminal code, because it is unacceptable that a sentence in the event of rape can be reduced according to the behavior of the victim”. UDC deputy, Céline Amaudruz, said that the judgment of the Basel Court of Appeal “is unacceptable and unbearable, not only for the victim but also for all women.”
