At age 40, rapper Lil Wayne admitted he can no longer sing his own songs due to lack of memory.
In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, the American singer said he doesn’t even know which songs were part of his most famous albums. “I don’t know ‘Tha Carter III’, ‘Tha Carter II’, ‘Tha Carter I’, da ‘Tha Carter IV’.
“And that’s just the honest truth of my God. You could lie, you could ask [sobre] such and such a song, and I wouldn’t even know what we’re talking about”, added the musician when he said that, given the faulty memory, some of the projects that made him famous in the early 2000s, “have no meaning”, since that he does not remember them.
Lil also stated that he no longer remembers the phase in which his albums were released. “That’s what I don’t know,” she lamented. “I work every day, bro – every day. And I also always see that as a cursed part of the gift.”
It is worth mentioning that in 2013, during an episode of MTV’s “RapFix Live”, the rapper had already commented on episodes of epilepsy and unprovoked seizures. “Without warning, without anything, I don’t feel bad…”, he explained that, because he doesn’t remember anything, he is usually informed about what happened by family and friends.
“I told them the other day, ‘You guys can tell me now that you were lying, like, ‘You know what? We’re lying is nothing’, and I would have to believe them because I don’t know,” he admitted. “I go to sleep and wake up in the hospital. I do not feel anything. I just hope it stops happening”, he clarified according to the “Today” publication.
Retire? None of that!
Despite constant oblivion, the musician claims to have been blessed with an “incredible mind” responsible for creating hits.
“I believe that [Deus] It blessed me with this amazing mind, but it didn’t give me an amazing memory to remember this amazing shit.”
And anyone who thinks that Wayne thinks about putting an end to his musical career because of that is wrong. “Even when you say that, I don’t think you really want to stop working or making music. You probably mean that you want to retire from everything but music.”
“I don’t believe that true artists and pioneers retire. They die doing it.”
Recently, Lil wrapped up her “Welcome to Tha Carter” tour and, according to Rolling Stone, also finished the “ColleGrove II” album – which would be a sequel to the collaboration project with 2 Chainz, back in 2016.
memory failures
A CNN the neurosurgeon Felipe Mendes reinforces that in Lil’s case, he apparently still manages to create and produce the songs, but there is a difficulty in pulling this content from the brain.
“In people with epilepsy, it is possible to have memory impairment for a number of reasons. Among them, the use of medication to control epileptic seizures which, in the long term, can worsen memory capacity, ”he explains.
In addition, there are cases of patients who have had many seizures without adequate control. And finally, the expert highlights a specific type of epilepsy. “We call it mesial temporal sclerosis which, over time, can lead to a change in the function of the hippocampus, an important part of memory”, he concludes.
