Rappi announced this Monday (11) a pilot project for the use of cryptocurrencies as a means of payment. The pilot will be carried out in Mexico, but the perspective is that it will be replicated in other countries, such as Brazil, depending on the outcome of the project.
The proposal is for consumers to buy Rappi credits with cryptocurrencies, which can then be used in products and services on the platform.
“We are studying the world of cryptocurrencies and we believe that the future is the intersection of the crypto world with traditional non-crypto businesses,” says Sebastián Mejia, co-founder and president of Rappi.
In this first phase, Mejia highlighted that the project aims to connect customers’ digital wallets with accounts in crypto intermediaries to convert cryptocurrencies into Rappi credits.
“It is a first approach that will allow us to learn and continue to incorporate the world of digital currency into Rappi.”
For the execution of the project, Rappi entered into a partnership with Bitso, an international platform for the purchase and sale of cryptocurrencies, and Bitpay, a provider of bitcoin payment services.
