Rapporteur in the Senate of the bill that blocks ICMS says he plans to present text on Tuesday (7)

Rapporteur of the project that blocks the collection of ICMS (Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Services), senator Fernando Bezerra says he plans to present the text on Tuesday (7). Before that, he will talk to the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, and to the President of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco.

Bezerra says he still awaits the arrival of new contributions from the states to close the report. “We still don’t have an understanding with the states. The secretaries were to send a new suggestion until tomorrow morning. We will certainly talk again”, said Bezerra.

The senator even touted last week with a change in the rules of compensation to the states. By approving the project limiting the ICMS collection to 17% for fuel, electricity, communications and transport, the deputies established that the states would receive debt relief with the Union.

Bezerra indicated that this solution could be set aside and replaced by a modulation at the beginning of the ICMS ceiling. In other words, the 17% rate would only start to apply a little later in some cases.

“All alternatives are on the table, but negotiations still require a lot of effort,” said Bezerra.
