Rare CryptoPunk token sold for a record $24 million

The NFT space continues to set records with CryptoPunk #5822 sold for 8,000 ETH ($23.7 million). Prior to this, the maximum NFT sale was $11.8 million.

The owner of the rare token is the CEO of startup Chain, Deepal Thapliyal. He has been collecting rare tokens for a long time and spends fabulous money on his hobby. A month ago, he bought a rare NFT from the Mutant Ape Yacht Club collection for $5.8 million, as well as a CryptoPunk #7605 NFT for $320,500.

NFT CryptoPunk #5822 is a token featuring a bandana-wearing punk alien. In total, there are 10,000 images in the CryptoPunks collection, but only 9 of them show aliens. In addition, there are 333 bandana tokens, so CryptoPunk #8522 is really rare.

Last fall, the owner of one of the CryptoPunk tokens sold it for $530 million. However, it turned out that the deal was fictitious – NFT was sold to the owner himself, and his goal was to draw attention to the NFT sphere and his token.

Recall that on February 23, the auction house Sotheby’s will hold an event in New York for the sale of 104 tokens from the CryptoPunk collection. This will be the first “live auction” for the sale of NFTs.
