Rare public appearance of Taliban leader Haibatullah Akhundzada at a celebration in Afghanistan

Ramadan has ended for Muslims and at today's Eid al-Fitr prayer in southern Afghanistan, thousands of worshipers in Kandahar were led in a rare appearance by Taliban supreme leader Haibatullah Akhundzada, according to a government statement. “Today the Supreme Leader led the Eid al-Fitr prayer at the Eidga Mosque in Kandahar in front of thousands of compatriots,” government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid wrote to X. Mullah Haibatullah Akhundzada has made very few public appearances since becoming the Taliban's supreme leader in 2016. Only one photo of him has been published, in which he is seen wearing a white turban and sporting a long, gray beard.
