Reactions of Arab countries to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation for allegedly Turkish minority of Thrace and Cyprus

Egypt, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Lebanon and Bahrain reacted strongly to Turkey’s attempt to pass through the decisions of the Islamic Cooperation Organization that met on the weekend in Constantinople, in the presence of T. Thrace’s minority and the “Turkish” community of the Dodecanese. As reflected in OIC’s decisions, the delegations of these countries expressed reservations about paragraph 24 of the Constantinople Declaration on Turkish Cypriots and paragraph 25 on the “Turkish” Muslim minority in Western Thrace and the Muslim population in Greece. Paragraph 24 specifically states: “We support the aspirations of the Muslim Turkish Cypriots to safeguard their inherent rights and emphasize the importance of a negotiated, mutually acceptable, fair, continuous and sustainable solution to the Cyprus issue, as well as the need to develop their contacts with their Turkish contacts.
