Real camera: OPPO showed a smartphone with a retractable camera

Chinese mobile device manufacturer OPPO has posted a short video showing a smartphone with a pop-up main camera. It can move back and forth like a lens in a digital camera. Apparently, the company wants to offer optical zoom capabilities without the need for an additional camera lens.

Optical zoom on a smartphone is no longer surprising, but OPPO’s solution looks completely different. Firstly, the camera itself with such a lens is much more compact than previous solutions, for example, in the old Samsung Galaxy Zoom smartphones. Secondly, the camera automatically hides in the body when the smartphone is dropped to avoid damage. Thirdly, in the video, you can see that the new retractable camera is designed for waterproof devices.

Most pop-ups are annoying…

But not our self-developed retractable camera! 😉

The camera is configured with a 1 / 1.58-inch f / 2.4 aperture sensor with a 50mm focal length, although it can be adjusted. So far, this is all that is known about the new OPPO smartphone with a pop-up camera. It is quite possible that the company will present it at the OPPO Inno Day event, which will be held on December 14-15.
