Reali, the top and flop moments of 2020 (which we will not forget)

It has been a year of ups and downs, 2020, also for the royal families, who after so many seasons of relative tranquility found themselves facing thorny situations. And the Coronavirus emergency has only a minimal part to do with it, because beyond the lockdowns and restrictions that the pandemic brought with it, there have been many other knots to be solved.

At the Windsor home goes the sad record of unsolicited popularity. The fault, above all, of the Megxit, the now famous “step back” of Harry of England and Meghan Markle from their commitments as senior royals.

Exploded at the beginning of January in all the British tabloids, the issue has held ground for the whole year that is about to end.

From the transfer to Canada of the Dukes of Sussex, to that (it would seem definitive) in California, up to clutches between Harry and William, which would have subsided in the last few weeks. A hope rather than a certainty, at least for now. There was no lack of joys, come on wedding of Beatrice of York, to pregnancy of sister Eugenie, to that of Zara Tindall, which in 2021 will bring two new royal babies to the family, to the delight of Queen Elizabeth.

The sovereign this year was also tried by the forced confinement at Windsor Castle with her husband Philip and give it sex scandal that hit the favorite son Andrea, involved incase Epstein. Luckily there are Kate and William not to miss a beat and to represent the family. the future, at least, is in good hands, or so it would seem.

Even away from the UK the other monarchies lived a year of up e down. In full pandemic emergency, the King Emeritus of Spain, Jua Carlos, was forced to emigrate to the Dominican Republic. The fault of an almost certain involvement in a bad story of bribes. The king would have made money from building a railway in the United Arab Emirates. The anger of his son Felipe, on the throne since 2014, was not long in coming, considering the fact that the royal family does not enjoy much esteem among the Iberians. And as the Republican winds return to be felt, the future begins to make its way with Leonor and Sofia, daughters of Felipe and Letizia Ortiz. By now teenagers, always together with their parents on the most important occasions, they are the new (and clean) face of the Bourbon house: that they can also break through the hearts of those who would like a constitutional change?

The 2020 of the Nordic monarchies is decidedly softer, despite the concerns about Covid-19, which has infected both Christian of Denmark, 15 year old heir to the throne, that Carl Philip and Sofia of Sweden, pregnant with third child. Everyone got away with a few symptoms and a little rest. Fear also for Albert of Monaco, who contracted the virus in spring, and that he was forced to stay away from his wife Charlène and children Gabriella and Jacques. Despite a difficult year, the twins have been able to steal the show from their parents and other family members on more than one occasion. After all, the little ones of the house always manage to snatch a few smiles. All that remains is to wait for 2021 to take a breather. Whatever happens, the new year will also be a relief for crowned heads.
