The president of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan today called for pressure to be exerted on USA to stop Israel’s military operations in Gauzeunderlining that there will be no agreement since Washington does not consider this enclave to be Palestinian territory.
“We should discuss with Egypt and the Gulf countries and put pressure on the United StatesErdogan said speaking to Turkish journalists on the plane he returned from the summit of Arab and Muslim countries held on Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
“USA they should step up the pressure on Israel. The West should step up its pressure on Israel (…) It is vital for us to achieve a ceasefire. The most important country to be involved is the US, which has influence over Israel.”Erdogan insisted.
The Turkish president clarified, however, that he does not intend to contact his American counterpart, Joe Biden. “We cannot agree with Mr. Biden if he sees Gaza as settler land or Israel and not as the territory of the Palestinian people,” he said.
“The European Union believes exactly the same as Israel when it comes to Hamas. But we don’t think like them. I consider Hamas a political party that won the elections in Palestine. I don’t see things the same way they do,” he added.
