Record-breaking «Bridgerton»: it is the fifth most viewed series ever on Netflix

Since making its Netflix debut, Bridgerton, the first series produced by Shonda Rhimes for the platform, has monopolized the discussion on social media and newspapers becoming, for better or for worse, one of the most talked about series of the Christmas period (and not only). Now, while the complicit gaze of Daphne and the Duke of Hastings continues to peep into the ranking of the most viewed titles, Netflix releases the data: in the first four weeks of its release, 63 million families saw it Bridgerton, catapulting her into the list of the most viewed original series ever on the platform.

Currently the series created by Chris Van Dusen occupies the fifth place. Before her there are, in fact, The Witcher with 76 million, The Paper House 4 with 65 million, Stranger Things 3 with 64 million, e Tiger King with 64 million. Also thanks to the pandemic that forced people to stay at home, pushing them to subscribe more subscriptions than normal, Netflix greets 2020 and welcomes 2021 with several records in their pocket: beyond the reception of Bridgerton, the streamer also celebrates the success of The chess queen which, with its 62 million accounts reached, turned out to be the most viewed miniseries ever on the platform, and of films such as We Can Be Heroes, released on Christmas day as well as Bridgerton.

According to these data, the week between Christmas and New Year would have been the one that concentrated the highest number of views ever for the platform, not to mention that Bridgerton it currently ranks first in Netflix’s Top Ten of over 40 countries, including Italy, where it has reigned supreme since last December 26th. At this point the renewal for one second season – which the platform hasn’t announced yet despite the cast hoping for it and fans trusting Shondaland to transpose all nine of Julia Quinn’s original novels – seems like just a formality.
