Record prices for scrap ships – Super deal for War

Amid strong demand and limited supply, scrap prices are soaring to record highs in Bangladesh and Pakistan.

The price for tankers reached up to $ 660 last week, with a Greek-owned super-tanker ensuring “impressive” sales according to the GMS report.

Sales included Indonesia’s Taurus, a 106,000-dwt aframax tanker sold by Pertamina.

Brokers reported that this 1999 boat was sold to buyers based in Bangladesh for $ 650 per ldt. With a ldt number of 15,681 ton boats, the seller made just over $ 10 million.

Meanwhile, the 298,000 dwt VLCC “New Inspiration”, built in 2002, was sold to Ad. War on Pakistani breakers at a great price of $ 660 per ldt, earning $ 26.8 million from its sale for recycling.

Clarkson Research Services suggested that prices could escalate further, noting in a recent report: “Possible signs that prices will rise further in the coming weeks if capacity supply in the recycling market remains limited.”

Other tankers sold for scrap recently included the 46,000 dwt Hippo tanker which was sold by Indonesian owners to Bangladesh scrapers for $ 642 per ldt.
