Minister Paulo Guedes said this Thursday (21) that the collection of BRL 181.040 billion in taxes and contributions in June signals that the Brazilian economy “is growing at a sustainable pace”.
“That [arrecadação] it is important because it confirms our predictions that the Brazilian economy would once again surprise analysts, it is an unmistakable symptom that economic growth is surprising. It surprised analysts, it surprised revenue,” he declared.
Guedes pointed out, during a press conference on the collection in June, that the result occurred to the detriment of the companies’ profits, which according to him came above what was expected.
The collection registered the sixth consecutive monthly record in 2022, with the data for June being the highest for the month since the beginning of the historical series, which began in 1995. Due to the increase in tax collection, Guedes defended the recently adopted tax cuts, as in the case of ICMS on fuels.
“It is because of this increase in revenue, well above what was expected by analysts, that our policy of reducing and simplifying taxes is confirmed”, he highlighted.
