The popular American online forum Reddit announced today that it is launching a new marketplace.
The platform will present users with a limited series of collectible avatars for self-expression on the site of this social network. The Polygon blockchain technology will be used to store and track avatars.
Collectible NFTs will become available for purchase on Reddit’s avatar maker, with proceeds going to the artists who design them. The social network has announced that it plans to create around 90 different collectible avatar designs. At the same time, the total number of NFTs generated on their basis will be in the “tens of thousands”.
Avatars are not auctioned and no cryptocurrency is required to purchase them. Each avatar has a fixed price and can be purchased with fiat currency. The company noted that all users who bought NFT will receive a license to use the avatar not only on Reddit, but also outside the forum.
Recall that the Internet forum Reddit announced the possibility of using collection tokens as user avatars in January. Simultaneously with Reddit, the developers of the social network Twitter announced the start of testing NFTs as images for user profiles.
