Reddit launches collectible avatars airdrop

The American social network Reddit team has published several collections of NFT avatars for users, the price of which varies from $10 to $100 apiece.

Collectible avatars are based on Polygon. This is one of the steps before the wider adoption of the blockchain on the blogging platform. Some users were asked to choose avatars from four collections depending on their participation in the life of the platform: The Singularity, Aww Friends, Drip Squad and Meme Team.

All collectibles are hosted on the OpenSea NFT trading platform. Items from The Singularity collection currently cost around $15, with the most expensive Drip Squad priced at $42. There’s also a standalone collection created by community-selected artists, with items priced between $9.99 and $99.99. Users will be able to use purchased NFTs as avatars on Reddit.

Avatars can be managed in your own Reddit Vault blockchain wallet. Vault currently offers blockchain-based Community Points to users, which can be redeemed for in-app features such as icons. Notably, the site’s management does not refer to these avatars as NFTs.

The company said it sees blockchain and related technologies as one way to empower the Reddit community.

For the first time, the forum team announced the launch of avatar collections in early July. The company said that they plan to create up to 90 different blockchain avatar designs in the future. At the same time, the total number of NFTs generated on their basis will be in the tens of thousands.
