Back in December 2020, Xiaomi canceled the MIUI 12 update for a number of devices, including the Redmi Y3, Redmi 7, Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A. However, later the company released an update for Redmi 7, and now it is offered to download to the owners of Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A.
At one time, Xiaomi refused to update these smartphones to MIUI 12, citing performance problems. On the official Xiaomi forum, information was published that the company will not distribute this update over the air to all Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A users.
MIU I12 firmware can only be installed manually. Interested users can unlock their phone’s bootloader using the Xiaomi Mi Unlock Tool and install the firmware using the Xiaomi Mi Flash Tool.
Xiaomi warns that these two phones don’t work very well with MIUI 12. There are stutters, with apps taking longer to open than MIUI 11.
So far, MIUI 12 Fastboot ROM for Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A is only available for Chinese versions of smartphones.
