THE Rua Amauri already been the main gastronomic address in São Paulo. A stronghold of trendy houses and star-studded restaurants, it went through a period of low, with the closing of establishments such as Ecco, Porto Rubaiyat, Dressing, Factorio and Starbucks – this, the first street store of the coffee chain in Brazil.
However, the street, mainly the part concentrated between Brigadeiro Faria Lima and Nove de Julho avenues, managed to rebuild itself in recent years. And now, whoever joins the team from houses like Parigi, Bottega Bernacca, Osaka Nikkei, NTMU SteakHouse, among others, is the Dhumus restaurant, which opened its doors last month and features Mediterranean food as its flagship.
Right at the entrance, tables with ombrelones and a well-lit terrace, with a stone wall, straw lamps and a clean environment, invite visitors to sit down and forget, at least for a few hours, that they are next to the large and busy avenues of the city. City.
At the head of the project is the restaurateur Marcelo Cintra, who, in an informal conversation with us, said: “Close your eyes, you can even hear the noise of the sea!”. Jokes aside, the atmosphere is really beachy, which perfectly matches the clean and accurate menu.
In the kitchen, the Italian chef Leonardo Russi, a native of San Severo and with stints in European restaurants such as L’Albereta by Gualtiero Marchesi and Fini in Modena, with over 100 years of history, helped to create an uncomplicated menu, which pairs perfectly with a chilled white wine and items for share.
For starters, boursin croquette, pistachio and fish carpaccio with lemon and mint (R$ 56); polenta, salami paste and gorgonzola with pickled red onion (R$ 52); and the crispy suplí with pomodoro, mozzarella and spicy tuna tartare (R$ 52) – this one, to be eaten with your hands.
The octopus carpaccio, potato cream, capers, potato chips and basil sprouts (R$ 52), the scallops au gratin with chorizo and caponata cream (R$ 78) and the refreshing shrimp catalana, a mix of tomato and shrimp (R$ 68), ideas are requested for the hottest days.
Fresh pasta is made by Márcio Shihomatsu, from the already acclaimed Shihoma Fresh Pasta in Vila Madalena, and finished with Leo’s delicious sauces. It’s hard to choose just one of the options, like tagliolini all’arrabbiata with langoustine (R$68); the strascinati ai funghi with seafood (R$72); tagliatelli with lamb ragu (R$66); and the paccheri alla scarpariello and tuna (R$72).
The main dishes include the fish of the day with puttanesca sauce, fennel and basil (R$ 74); the fish grilliata with tagliatoni nero (R$115); and other meats such as rack of lamb with herb and lemon risotto (R$88). They are not on the menu yet, but dishes to share on weekends should soon be added to the menu.
Finally, a good choice is the creamy Tiramisù (R$ 32). Dhomus is a relaxed place to sit with friends and spend hours chatting accompanied by a glass in hand and tasty snacks.
