Regional elections: Lombardy and Lazio in the center-right, Fontana and Rocca over 50%

The victory is clear and can also be defined as announced. The numbers clearly say it. Lazio and Lombardy go to the center-right and with percentages that exceed 50% even with a turnout still falling sharply to 40%: in Lombardy it is 41.67%, in Lazio it is 37.2%. Government coalition candidates exceed 50% in regional elections. The Democratic Party has not been surpassed by the M5S and the Third Pole, but both Bonaccini and Schlein, who aim for the secretariat, attribute the negative result to Letta.

Lombardy

When 1626 sections of Lombardy out of 9254 remained to be scrutinized, the outgoing Governor Attilio Fontana was confirmed President of Lombardy. With 55.78% of the votes, his advantage over Majorino, stopped at 33.08%, was already mathematically unbridgeable. Letizia Moratti stops at around 9% with the Third Pole. «The first sentiment is joy for the Lombards who have understood our work» said the president of Lombardy Attilio Fontana, exalting the coalition. «An aspect that must lead to some evaluation is abstention, which must be evaluated carefully. Until now there has always been talk, but very little has been done. From this legislature on my part, there will be attention to why this occurs and to involve citizens more in the choices to be made».

We need the final data from the lists to establish the games of strength within the winning coalition with the assignment of seats and consequently of the departments. Brothers of Italy he is first party in both regions. In Lombardy it reached 25.5% and could ask for the vice presidency of the region. The League has 16.83%, around 7% Forza Italia, 6.2% for the Fontana list.

Lazio

Francesco Rocca, candidate of the centre-right, reaches 53%, followed by Alessio D’Amato, candidate of the centre-left, close to 34%; third is the M5S candidate Donatella Bianchi who stops at 11%. Brothers of Italy is the first party in Rome, in all municipalities, and the Democratic Party is the second. On average in the municipalities of Rome, FdI is 33.24%.

Rocca, who grew up in Ostia, is the 57-year-old candidate chosen by Giorgia Meloni. Lawyer, health manager, number one in the Red Cross that he had chosen as his slogan: Direction for the future. Alessio D’Amato he partly links his defeat to the “long wave” of the September Policies, which would have favored the center-right in government and penalized the Democratic Party.

Politics

Celebrate the center-right government. The premier Giorgia Meloni he speaks of an important result which “consolidates the compactness of the centre-right” and “strengthens the action of the government”. For Matteo Salvini «it’s a team victory, I’m not passionate about internal confrontation. A confirmation that the teamwork with Giorgia and Silvio works».

From the opposition Enrico Letta claims the position of the Democratic Party as the second party and is attacked by many sides. Elly Shlein and Stefano Bonaccini they blame the defeat on the party’s outgoing leadership. “Today’s defeat is in continuity with that of the Politics of last September 25, where a reduced Pd and a divided progressive field give another victory to the right, even when it is in difficulty,” said Bonaccini. Pier Francesco Majorino, center-left candidate in Lombardy, adds: “Not having had a national leader has forced us to do more.”
