Regions, new colors: a surprise Lombardy in yellow

Lombardy, surprisingly, is in the yellow zone. Only four Regions and one Province remain in orange: Puglia, Sardinia, Sicily, Umbria and the province of Bolzano. All the others are yellow, in addition to Lombardy, Campania, Tuscany, Molise, Basilicata, the Province of Trento, Lazio, Piedmont, Val d’Aosta, Marche, Friuli, Abruzzo, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, Calabria and Liguria. There are no regions or autonomous provinces in the red zone.

The National RT continues to drop. From 0.97 a week ago it is at 0.84 in the week 18-25 January. The incidence of cases also decreases: there are 289.35 per 100,000 inhabitants nationwide. They have been down for 5 weeks. In the report of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, however, we read that “the incidence is still far from levels that would allow the complete restoration of the identification of cases and tracing of their contacts throughout the national territory”. For cases to be traceable, the level must be 50 per 100,000 inhabitants.

In the week taken into consideration, the highest incidence of cases is that of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, followed by Umbria. Ten Regions are classified with moderate risk and another 10 with low risk. The regions with moderate risk are Abruzzo, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Lazio, Liguria, Lombardy, Marche, the Province of Bolzano, the Province of Trento, Puglia and Tuscany. Low risk for Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Molise, Piedmont, Sardinia, Sicily, Val d’Aosta and Veneto.

There are 8 regions above the critical occupancy threshold for intensive care. At the national level, the rate is below the critical threshold of 30%, but there are “strong regional variations with some regions where the absolute number of hospitalized patients in the critical area and the relative impact, together with the incidence, still impose restrictive measures”. According to experts, “the epidemic remains in a delicate phase and a new rapid increase in the number of cases in the coming weeks is possible if mitigation measures are not strictly maintained both at national and regional level”.

The borders between the regions remain closed until 15 February, excluding exceptions for work and health and the possibility of reaching second homes. Gyms, swimming pools and cinemas will not reopen before March 5th. In the regions in the yellow band, green light for museums that can be opened again from Monday to Friday with limited admissions. Also in the yellow areas can open bars, restaurants, pastry shops until 18, after that time it is possible to take away.
