The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued an orange alert for heavy rain and strong winds valid between this Saturday (28) and Sunday (29), at 10am, impacting several areas in the Central-West and Southeast regions of the country.
The meteorological situation, classified as dangerous, requires increased attention from the population due to the risks of electricity cuts, falling trees, flooding and electrical discharges .
Affected areas include the Central-West, regions of Mato Grosso and Goiás; and in the Southeast, municipalities of São Paulo and Minas Gerais.
According to INMET, the orange alert indicates a dangerous meteorological situation, with forecast rainfall between 30 and 60 mm/h or 50 and 100 mm/day, and intense winds between 60 and 100 km/h. The population must remain vigilant, monitor weather information and follow the authorities’ guidelines.
The issuance of the alert occurs in a context of above-average precipitation, as seen in São Paulo, where rainfall has already exceeded the expected amount for the month of December by 11.5%.
The São Paulo Civil Defense also issued a meteorological alert for the next few days, focusing on the eastern part of the state, including Campinas, Piracicaba and Vale do ParaÃba.
Captain Roberto Farina, from the Civil Defense of São Paulo, explained to CNN that the climate phenomenon is associated with the South Atlantic convergence zone. He also highlighted the landslide in Taubaté, where three people died, highlighting that the ground was already saturated by rain.
