Reinkstone R1 tablet features a color electrophoretic display

KickStarter is raising funds for the Reinkstone R1 tablet, which features a backlit color electrophoretic display for low-light operation. The screen size is 10.1 inches, the resolution is 2232 x 1680 pixels. The pixel density is 280 ppi in black and white and 140 ppi in color. Note that this is not an E Ink, but a new Display Electronic Slurry (DES) E-Paper screen. The advantages of DES include higher resolution and image quality. However, so far such a screen has not been used in any other device.

The tablet configuration includes a quad-core processor (Arm Cortex-A55 cores and GPU Mali-G52), clocked at 1.8 GHz, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of flash memory. The tablet is equipped with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth interfaces, two 0.8W loudspeakers and two noise canceling microphones. It is powered by a 4500 mAh battery, which provides up to 300 hours of continuous use on a single charge. The kit includes a pen that recognizes 4096 levels of pressure. The tablet supports a variety of text formats, common image and sound formats.

The developers refer to the advantages of the device as the modern OS Android 11 and small thickness. The dimensions of the tablet are 236 x 167.3 x 6.8 mm. The body is made of aluminum alloy.

The minimum contribution is $ 429. At the time of this writing, the amount collected has exceeded $ 920,000. Considering that the authors of the project were aiming to collect $ 100,000, it can be considered a success. Shipping of tablets is due to begin in November this year.
