‘Relation’ of the OTE Group in mobile telephony

The OTE Group, after the gradual free upgrade of speeds to the fixed one, proceeded to the unlimited talk to all the national networks on the mobile for the majority of its subscribers.

Combined movements, in order to strengthen the market shares, both in fixed and mobile telephony, are carried out by the OTE Group.

Following the action for the gradual free upgrade of fixed broadband internet speeds for home and corporate subscribers, the OTE Group announced yesterday the provision of unlimited speech to all national networks for the majority of mobile contracts.

As of March 31 of this year, OTE’s mobile customers were 7.2 million, an increase of 4.2% compared to the first quarter of 2021.

This increase came from the increase of 5.3% of contract customers and 3.5% of prepaid customers.

The new promotional action of COSMOTE was also mentioned yesterday by the President and CEO of OTE, Michalis Tsamaz, during the briefing of the analysts on the results of the first quarter.

“We have announced a number of initiatives that are expected to support positive performance, such as upgrading speeds to fixed broadband services and enriched mobile packages that offer more voice and data to our customers,” Tsamaz said yesterday.

According to analysts of the telecommunications market, the “dynamics” of the new promotion of COSMOTE, which holds the most important market share in mobile, remains to be proven.

In particular, based on the retail revenues in mobile telephony from the Electronic Communications and Postal Services Market Overview Report 2020 of EETT, the market share of Cosmote, in 2020, was recorded between 45% to 55%, Vodafone between 25% and 35% and Wind between 15% to 25%.

However, if anyone is benefiting from the escalation of competition between COSMOTE, VODAFONE and WIND, this is the consumer, who – based on the announcements of EL.STAT. for inflation – finds “price restraint” in telecommunications and often with additional benefits, compared to other items that are considered “essential”.
