Relatives of victims of Hamas attack in Israel meet with the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court

Relatives of victims of her attack Hamas in the Israel met today with the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, the lawyer representing them announced, expressing the desire to issue arrest warrants at the expense of the leaders of the Palestinian organization.

“The investigation is progressing,” assured François Zimmeray after the meeting, two weeks after he submitted to prosecutor Karim Khan a file on behalf of nine victims’ families. These families want the Hamas leadership prosecuted for war crimes and genocide.

In Israel, 1,200 people, mostly civilians, were killed on October 7 and 240 were kidnapped.

Anyone can submit a request to the ICC prosecutor asking for an investigation into a case, but this court is under no obligation to grant the request. The ICC launched an investigation in 2021 into possible war crimes in the Palestinian Territories, particularly crimes that may have been committed by Israeli forces, Hamas or other Palestinian armed organizations.

Khan said the order also applies to alleged crimes that may have been committed in the current war between Israel and Hamas. But his groups have not been able to enter Gaza, nor Israel, which is not a member of the ICC.
