Actress and model Eliza Samudio disappeared on June 4, 2010, when she told friends that she was going on a trip. Since then, she has never been seen again. At age 25, she was considered dead after suspects assumed the murder.
The story scheduled to premiere today, on Netflix, tells the mystery about Eliza’s whereabouts, which begins between the end of 2008 and the beginning of 2009, when the actress met the then goalkeeper Bruno, in Rio de Janeiro. He was a professional athlete and was at the height of his career, playing as a starter for Flamengo.
Eliza became pregnant with Bruno in May 2009. Since then, threats and her disappearance led to one of the biggest police mysteries being triggered, and in fact, never completely explained. The former goalkeeper was convicted in 2013 for the disappearance and death of Eliza.
Relationship, disappearance and confessions
In the trailer for the documentary that tells the case, some spoilers are given. Among them, Bruno and Eliza’s well-known extramarital relationship explain the turbulent relationship. The goalkeeper was engaged at the time, and according to witnesses, he was in more than one relationship at the same time.
The actress became pregnant with the goalkeeper and made Bruno’s pregnancy and paternity public in 2009. The fact had repercussions, which led to the athlete’s refusal to accept the child.
During the pregnancy, some records of incidents were made by Eliza. The couple’s son, Bruninho, was born in February 2010.
In June 2010, a year after announcing her pregnancy, Eliza was reported missing. The last report on her whereabouts pointed to Bruno’s farm, in Minas Gerais.
After police investigations, items of clothing and diapers were found at the scene. Eliza’s son was found on the outskirts of Belo Horizonte.
Some convicted of Eliza’s death told versions of what happened to the former goalkeeper’s son’s mother. The confessions state that the model was strangled, and after she died, she was dismembered, with her remains buried.
The versions were never fully proven, as the police were never able to find the actress’s remains.
The widely publicized story presents the crime as a plot planned by the former goalkeeper. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the crime, although he never confessed to premeditating the murder.
