The removal of at least nine bodies by residents in the mangrove swamp of Complexo do Salgueiro, in São Gonçalo, Rio de Janeiro, is a “procedural flaw and hinders the investigation”, according to the spokesman for the Military Police, Lieutenant- Colonel Ivan Blaz, in an interview with CNN.
He explained that there was an occupation in the region, carried out by the battalion, “to prevent theft of cargo and vehicles by criminals”, but, according to him, “there was confrontation and resistance to the police presence.”
The spokesman confirmed the death of a police officer involved in the clash. And, from that, the Special Operations Battalion (BOPE) was activated. “We had two days of confrontation, starting yesterday afternoon, then it stopped and BOPE left the community.”
However, Blaz said that “especially in the interior of the forest area, it is assumed that there are a large number of wounded men, we can see from the image shown. [dos corpos], we are already used to dealing with the undoing of crime scenes by order of trafficking.”
“This faction of Complexo do Salgueiro, by nature, likes to act within the idea of confrontation, of terror, this makes police action very difficult”, he added.
The next step, now, is to “reoccupy the region and open the doors for the technical police to carry out the investigation.”
