Renault MeganE electric car will receive a Qualcomm processor

Qualcomm today announced that it will supply the key computing processor for the digital instrument cluster in Renault’s new electric vehicle.

Qualcomm, headquartered in San Diego, California, the world’s largest supplier of essential semiconductors for mobile phones, is expanding its range of automotive ICs with processors that can simultaneously power dashboards and infotainment systems. Earlier this year, the company announced a deal with General Motors Co to use Qualcomm chips.

Qualcomm has clarified that Renault’s Megane E-TECH Electric will also use Qualcomm chips for the vehicle’s infotainment system, which will host software from Google, Qualcomm’s longtime partner in the Android phone market.

The Megane E-TECH Electric, which is expected to be unveiled at the IAA Mobility 2021 in Munich this month, will go on sale next year.

Renault Megane E-Tech Electric, which is also called MeganE in the company, is built on the proprietary CMF-EV platform. It is equipped with a 160 kW (217 hp) electric motor and a 60 kW • h battery, which will cover a distance of up to 450 km using the WLTP protocol.
