Renesas Electronics has presented an updated version of the R-Car V3H single-chip system. It provides significant performance gains on deep learning algorithms for smart camera applications, including driver and passenger surveillance systems, front-facing cameras, 360-degree cameras, and parking cameras for large vehicles.
The performance of the R-Car V3H is estimated at 7.2 TOPS, of which 3.7 TOPS is accounted for by the neural unit.

Along with the increased performance, the benefits of the updated SoC include low power consumption, as well as compliance with NCAP 2020 requirements and future NCAP 2025 requirements.
The single-chip system is endowed with a rich set of IP cores for video processing and image recognition, including tools for distortion correction and support for stereoscopic vision. In addition, interfaces specific to automotive electronics should be mentioned, including CAN, Ethernet AVB and FlexRay.
Serial production of the updated SoC R-Car V3H is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2022.
