An Arkansas woman and her husband have been arrested and charged in the drowning death of the woman’s 2-year-old son, who was repeatedly thrown into a pool in an attempt to teach him to swim, authorities say. Annastacia Atkins, 24, and Dakota Shawn Hays, 29, were arrested Monday, Jan. 13, and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the boy’s June 2024 death, according to an arrest warrant obtained by People. Atkins was also charged with permitting the abuse of a minor, according to online jail records, while Hays faces a charge of endangering the welfare of a minor.
