The Minister of Human Rights, Silvio Almeida, delivered this Monday (30) to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) a preliminary report in which he states that the past administration ignored or filed complaints about the Yanomami people.
THE CNN had access to the main conclusions of the data survey that the current management made on the measures adopted between 2019 and 2022.
The history is one of rejection of recommendations from national and international bodies and entities and even “negligence in the face of complaints made about the situation of the Yanomami community”, points out the text.
According to the new Human Rights department team, the ministry identified seven administrative processes in which, despite several warnings about the violence suffered by the Yanomami people, with the submission of recommendations and requests from the UN, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights , the Federal Public Ministry, among other entities.
In addition, the previous management would have stopped participating in hearings on measures for the Yanomami people; positioned itself in favor of the proposed law that legalizes mining activity; did not visit the area to collect testimonies from indigenous people about the denunciations that reached the folder.
In the past government, the portfolio was headed by Minister Damares Alves. Recently, in her social networks, Damares stated that the ministry would have been in loco “numerous times to gather information” and that it forwarded the complaints to Organs responsible bodies, referring to the work shared with the ministries of Health and Justice.
But, according to the preliminary report of the ministry’s current management, much information did not go forward because it was barred by the Ministry of Human Rights itself.
