North Korean hackers stole $180 million in cryptocurrencies in the first half of 2023, according to Asia Today, citing law enforcement agencies in South Korea.

North Korea has illegally seized more than $1.5 billion in virtual assets since 2015, according to South Korean Intelligence (NIS). Lazarus Group from North Korea is suspected of being involved in numerous hacks related to cryptocurrencies.

According to a recent report from the United Nations (UN), hackers from North Korea continue to attack cryptocurrency projects to fund their nuclear and missile programs. The report notes that Pyongyang “continues to use increasingly sophisticated cyber methods to steal funds and information.”

The WSJ recently reported that over the past five years, North Korean hackers have been able to steal $3 billion in cryptocurrencies to finance their nuclear program.
