The Regional Council of Engineering and Agronomy of Rio de Janeiro (CREA-RJ) has announced that it will open an infraction notice against the condominium located in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, west of Rio de Janeiro. Last Tuesday (4), the girl Maria Luísa Oldemburga, 7, died after the fall of a rocking pillar.
According to Miguel Fernández, president of Crea-RJ, a report produced by the Council showed that the reform of the “relax space”, where the pillar fell, had no record of technical responsible for the work. The absence of this professional, who must be a civil engineer, is considered a serious failure.
The president of Crea-RJ stressed that the hiring of an engineer is fundamental for the accomplishment of any work, even apparently simple. He pointed out that the professional is responsible for ensuring the safety of the work and compliance with technical standards.
On Thursday (6) the condominium liquidator, Luciano Bonfim de Azevedo, gave testimony to the police and reported that Pillar had been renovated and covered with wood in December last year.
According to the president of CREA-RJ, the State Prosecutor should an open a lawsuit on the case. The Civil Police are investigating the case to point out if there was an error in the design of the structure, execution or maintenance. The official may be investigated for a guilty crime when there is no intention to kill.

A 7-year-old child died on the afternoon of Tuesday after being hit by a pillar while playing on a balance sheet inside a residential condominium in Rio de Janeiro.
According to the Fire Department, the accident occurred around 6:30 pm, when Maria Luisa shook with other children. The victim died at the scene.
