Reporters Without Borders: Facebook case against France for hate speech

French capital prosecutor sues Facebook in France for hate speech and false information submitted by Reporters Without Borders yesterday, Monday (22/3) as stated in today’s announcement by the global NGO.

The IFRS, according to the APE-MPE, accuses Facebook that allowed the spread of large-scale hate speech, especially against journalists, and false information despite its commitment to provide a secure online environment.

“Using expert analysis, testimonies and testimonies of former Facebook employees in its appeal, the organization proves that… Facebook allows misinformation and hate speech to flourish in its network… contrary to its claims through the terms of its services and through its advertisements “, the organization states.

A Facebook representative in France replied that he was not able to comment directly on the NGO’s initiative.

The IFRS commented that a lawsuit against Facebook in France has the potential to have a global impact and that it plans to do something similar in other countries.

It also adds that appeal concerns Facebook of France and Facebook of Ireland and is based on the French Code of Consumer Conduct, based on which companies that use deceptive commercial practices risk imposing a fine of up to 10% of their annual turnover.
