As they go out for a meeting at the White House, Mayor Mike Johnson and the Republican leader of the House, Steve Scalise, continued to vote on their taxes, spending cuts, and immigration bill, rejecting the demands of the hard line to postpone any vote until after the Memorial Day.
Earlier, Johnson said to CNN That his goal was to approve the bill in the House Plenary later this Wednesday (21) at night, although the main conservatives ask for more time to complete the negotiations.
Johnson said he was “working” on the “slow deliberative process”, recognizing with such a close margin that he should “work with each member and hear his concerns and work with them and try to achieve the balance with as many people as possible.”
“It’s running on time and I’m very optimistic,” he said
Scalise said they would meet with President Donald Trump “to finish everything and then we will continue with the vote later.”
He emphasized that House parliamentarians need to keep the bill on the way. “Because there are much more stages in this process. That is, the Senate, of course, needs to do its job. You know, there are other things in the bill, such as the debt ceiling, which have deadlines.”
