“Requirement for a prescription is a boycott of the vaccine”, says infectious disease

The Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, declared last week that vaccination against Covid-19 for children from 5 to 11 years old will only be made to those who have a medical prescription in which they prescribe the application of the immunizing agent. THE CNN Brasil, the president of the São Paulo Society of Infectology, Carlos Fortaleza, said that the measure is a “boycott of the vaccine”.

“I’ve never seen this, whether in campaigns against polio, measles, routine vaccinations, it was never necessary to take a prescription. Imagine if we would have managed to eradicate polio with Zé Gotinha’s campaigns if we had demanded a medical prescription for each one of those children who were vaccinated”, questioned the infectologist.

“When we think that the vaccine is a collective measure, which can mean the return of children to schools, the non-circulation of variants, this is something very valuable that we have to encourage. This measure of requiring a medical prescription or formal authorization is absurd”, added the doctor.

Fortaleza also spoke about the opening of a public consultation carried out by the Ministry of Health to guide the inclusion of children aged 5 to 11 in the Covid-19 vaccination campaign.

“Public consultation does not apply when there is no scientific controversy and when the measures to be taken are emergency, as is the case with Covid”, he explained.

“The public consultation and the requirement for a medical prescription will delay the introduction of the vaccine at a time when a new variant enters, that we have Christmas and New Year meetings, and it will make many children return to school next year. immunized, which is something that puts them at risk”, completed the doctor.

Second survey of CNN Agency, so far, 13 states have informed that they will not follow Marcelo Queiroga’s indication on the vaccination of children. They are: Paraíba, Rio de Janeiro, Bahia, Ceara, Santa Catarina, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Maranhão, Espirito Santo, Pará, Acre, Paraná and Goiás.
