Rescue teams will look for the flight data recorders from the black box of the Jeju Air plane, which landed at Muan International Airport on Sunday, after recovering the remaining victims, according to a statement from the Ministry of Transport.
Flight data recorders – or so-called “black boxes” – offer information to aviation safety investigations and can clarify the causes of an accident.
More than 700 police, army and coast guard personnel have been mobilized for response efforts on the ground, the ministry added.
Muan Fire Department authorities said rescue teams are working to identify the victims and record the exact locations where the people died.
The bodies of the victims will be taken to the airport morgue and released for burial once the identification process is completed.
