The Genial/Quaest poll for the government of Minas Gerais, which appointed Governor Romeu Zema (Novo) ahead, with 41%, followed by the former mayor of Belo Horizonte, Alexandre Kalil (PSD), with 30%, and the decision of the PSDB, MDB and Citizenship to conduct research for the choice of a single candidate of the so-called “third way” to the Presidency of the Republic are among the highlights of this Friday (13).

Genius Research/Quaest for election to the government of Minas Gerais first published by the CNN this Friday (13), brings the governor Romeo Zema (New), pre-candidate for reelection, ahead, with 41%, followed by the former mayor of Belo Horizonte, Alexandro Kalil (PSD), with 30%.
Then comes the senator Carlos Viana (PL), with 9%. According to the survey, Zema would win in the first round, with 51.8% of the valid votes. The proportion of those who say they will vote blank, cancel or fail to vote reaches 11%. The undecided represent 10%.

Third way will do research to choose single candidate
The Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB), the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB) and Cidadania announced, this Thursday (12), that they will carry out research to choose the single candidate for the Presidency of the Republic.
The Guimarães Research and Planning Institute will be the company responsible for the survey. Results will be released on May 18. According to the policy analyst at CNN Gustavo Uribe, qualitative and quantitative consultations will be carried out.
The former governor of São Paulo João Doria is the pre-candidate of the PSDB, which has a federation with Cidadania. The senator of Mato Grosso do Sul Simone Tebet is the pre-candidate of the MDB.
President of the TSE says that those who deal with elections are “unarmed forces”
The president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Minister Edson Fachin, sent this Thursday (12) a message to anyone who expects the Armed Forces to interfere in the electoral process. It was Fachin’s harshest reaction to the attacks on electronic voting machines that have been made by President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
“It’s the unarmed forces who deal with elections. And, therefore, elections concern the civilian population who freely and consciously choose their representatives. The Electoral Justice is open to listen, but it will never be open to bending over whoever wants to take the reins of the electoral process”, said the minister.
Fachin’s speech comes amid increased tensions in recent days between the military and the TSE and after the Court rejected suggestions made by the Armed Forces to the electoral process.
The court pointed out miscalculations in the document sent by the military to question the security of the ballot boxes and reported that several of the measures indicated are already adopted.
EU to provide another €500 million in military aid to Ukraine
European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on Friday that the bloc would provide another 500 million euros in military support to Ukraine and that he was confident an agreement could be reached in the coming days for a embargo on Russian oil.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the G7 foreign ministers’ meeting in Germany, Borrell said the military support would be for heavy weapons such as tanks and artillery and would bring the bloc’s aid to around 2 billion euros.
“A new impetus for military support. (It will be) more pressure on Russia with economic sanctions and continued international isolation of the country and fighting disinformation,” he said.
Ukrainian court to hear 1st war crime case against Russian soldier
A Ukrainian court is due to begin on Friday to hear the first war crimes case stemming from the February 24 invasion of Russia, indicting a Russian soldier captured for the murder of a 62-year-old civilian.
The case is of enormous symbolic importance for Ukraine. The Ukrainian government accuses Russia of atrocities and brutality against civilians during the invasion and says it has identified more than 10,000 possible war crimes.
Russia has denied targeting civilians or any involvement in war crimes and has accused Kiev of staging them to defame its forces.
