Research indicates that 60% of Brazilians who undergo therapy started in the pandemic

In this Thursday (4) edition of the Medical Correspondent chart, on the New Day, neurosurgeon Fernando Gomes spoke about a survey by the FSB Institute, which reveals that 60% of Brazilians who undergo therapy started treatment during the pandemic.

In the first place in the complaints of those who sought professional help, there is anxiety. “We are more anxious because of the stimulus from the outside world, especially the concerns regarding the pandemic, and all the issues that collide with this problem,” said the doctor.

See below the main complaints and most sought after alternatives by those who started therapy:

complaints

  • Anxiety: 53%
  • Mood change: 42%
  • Insomnia: 41%

Solutions

  • Meditation: 15%
  • Reading, writing: 14%
  • Religiosity: 8%

“These are robust numbers that reflect on our mental health. And the solutions sought are like natural ways to stimulate intelligence, both intrapersonal, mainly through meditation, and existential intelligence, through religiosity”, said Gomes.

According to the doctor, meditation is an alternative to treating anxiety. However, getting started on your own can be difficult for many people.

“No child takes a bike and walks the next day. Everything takes a certain process and meditation is no different either”, he said. “Long-term results show alterations in the brain, greater stimulation of the nervous system, which reflects tranquility for the physical body and combats anxiety, with changes even in the architecture of some regions of the brain”, he added.

“Going into a meditative process, developing and incorporating it into the routine is not something that comes overnight. You need to go through the process of learning how to do it and, mainly, be willing to practice meditation”, recommended Fernando Gomes.
