Research: paper books still sell better than e-books

According to research conducted by Statista Advertising & Media Outlook, the number of sold paper books worldwide exceeds the sales of e-books. This trend is especially clear during the COVID-19 pandemic. Respondents were asked to tell about their book purchases in 2020, and it turned out that e-books are not a substitute for printed books for people in most countries of the world.

For example, in the United States, where e-books are very popular, 23% of the population chose electronic options, while 45% were paper lovers last year. The most interesting situation is in China, where there is the smallest difference between e-books and paper books. There, 24% of respondents said they purchased electronic versions last year, and 32% – printed ones. It is difficult to explain such indicators, since in Asia they read everywhere on smartphones – the fashion for this appeared back in the 2000s.

On the one hand, the development of technology is pushing us towards widespread digitalization, therefore, sooner or later, sales of e-books will significantly prevail over sales of paper books. On the other hand, it’s nice to know that people are still reading regular books.
