Researchers work on the development of sustainable pesticides and fertilizers

Researchers from the State University of Londrina (UEL) and USP (University of São Paulo) are developing, in partnership with Embrapa (Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation), nanopesticides and nanofertilizers.

The products being developed by the institutions are similar to conventional pesticides and fertilizers, but rely on nanotechnology, that is, they are coated with smaller materials.

According to the scientists, with this technology, the active compounds are released gradually, ensuring the reduction of environmental impact and increasing the safety of the worker who handles them.

“The use of nanotechnology (in agriculture) is aimed at promoting a slow release of the active compound, a lower degradation of this compound and protecting the environment”, said researcher Vera Castro, a researcher at Embrapa Meio Ambiente.
