Reservoir level of three subsystems should be above 50% in February

The bulletin of the National Electric System Operator (ONS), published this Friday (28), points to an improvement in the storage of three of the four subsystems of the National Interconnected System (SIN) for the next month. According to the operator’s information, it was already possible to see the increase in water volume throughout the month of January.

At the beginning of the month, the basins of the Southeast/Midwest subsystem had 25.3% of storage. Today, they end the month with 40.4%. The North and Northeast subsystems started the month, respectively, with 52.6% and 51.6%, and ended the month with 86.9% and 72.6%, respectively.

The positive scenario is also expected for the storage indices of the reservoirs until the end of February. The capacity, in the North, Northeast and Southeast/Midwest subsystems, should reach 95.7%; 79.3% and 54.0%, respectively, on February 28. In the case of the South, the volume should be 32.3%. This is due to increased rainfall in the period.

The operator also projects an increase in the energy load for the next month, of 2.8% in comparison with the month of February of last year. The South should lead the advance among the regions, with a high estimate of 7.3%. Subsequently, the North subsystem should register an increase of 3.9%. The Southeast/Midwest rose by 2.0% and, finally, the Northeast presented an increase of 0.2%.

According to the ONS, the increase in the load in February reflects factors such as the return of economic activities, with the increase in vaccination. In addition, the temperature is expected to be higher than in February last year, which will make people use more appliances such as air conditioning.
