During the protests, a resident, who is in the house window, says, “Here I fought. It was day and night working, leaving my children at school, so that I can run around the bread every day. Here it was nothing taken from anyone, no!”

The City Hall and the Government of São Paulo act to remove families from Favela do Moinho. The first families began to be removed from the scene on April 22 and the demolitions began last Monday (12).
Yesterday afternoon, when a protest of residents in the region was also held, the State Department of Urban Development and Housing said that changes had already been made of 168 families living in the Moinho favela.
“In all, 752 families have already joined the resettlement (88% of the total), and 599 are qualified, ie they are already able to sign contracts and receive the keys as soon as the units are ready. So far, 548 have already chosen the Destination Property for final service or signaled the option for individual credit letter to seek a house in the market, even the number that has already started the process for receiving housing aid.” says the secretary.
In a statement, the government of São Paulo says it resumed on the morning of Tuesday (13) the disassembly of units already emptied in the Favela do Moinho.
“The action has now endorsed by the Union’s Secretariat of Patrimony (SPU), documented in a letter sent to the Secretariat of Urban Development and Housing of the State. The demolition work of unaccurrent structures were started on Monday (12) by six houses that were at risk for the precarious structure,” concluded in a statement.
