The United States Geological Service (USGS) said the earthquake, which occurred at lunchtime, began at a depth of 10 km.

The epicenter was about 17.2 km from the city of Mandalay in Myanmar, which is 270 km away from the capital Naipidau, and has a population of about 1.5 million people.

A strong secondary tremor and several more moderate others followed the first event.

The Mianmar Military Junta confirmed that at least 144 people died and 730 were injured during the earthquake.

“Several injured people” are in hospitals in the center of Sagaing and Mandalay near Epicenter, as well as in the capital Naipidau, reported MRTV, state media in the country.

These hospitals need blood “therefore, donors are asked to immediately contact their hospitals,” said MRTV.
