Residents of the Norwegian city of Sortland complain about the loud noise from mining farms

Residents of the Norwegian city of Sortland complain about local bitcoin miners due to the high noise level due to the operation of the equipment, despite the use of renewable energy.

The CEO of Norwegian mining farm KryptoVault, Kjetil Hove Pettersen, revealed that bitcoin miners in Sortland are using renewable energy and even using the generated heat to dry wood and algae, helping local businesses.

As Pettersen said, it’s usually the opponents of something that get the attention of the media, when in fact they may be in a minority. Most residents of the city are not against the operation of mining farms, since they consume only excess energy generated by hydroelectric power plants. Often, local miners are blamed for driving up electricity prices and suppressing other industries, which is fundamentally wrong, Pettersen said.

The head of KryptoVault listed the benefits of developing mining in Northern Norway: creating new jobs, replenishing the state treasury through taxes and reducing overall network fees for consumers. Pettersen acknowledged that the mining industry still has a lot of work to do to dispel the myths and misconceptions that mining cryptocurrencies is harmful to the environment.

Miners in North America have already taken concrete steps towards this last year, setting up the Bitcoin Mining Council working group to promote sustainable ways to mine bitcoin. In addition, recently, analysts from the Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) found that bitcoin mining using energy from burning methane can reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere and reduce the threat of global warming.

Recall that in 2018, residents of Norway filed similar accusations against KryptoVault for violating noise levels. It got to the point that one of the residents threatened to blow up the mining center so that silence would reign in the city again.
