Restaurant in Rio is voted the best Italian in the world outside of Italy

THE Ristorante Hotel Cipriani within the Belmond Copacabana Palace in Rio de Janeiro, was elected the best Italian restaurant in the world outside of Italy . The result is from the ranking 50 Top Italy 2025 which also chooses the best Italian houses within the country of the boot.

The ranking was released this Monday (16) in Milan. Rio restaurant is the only Brazilian on the list with the 50 best Italian restaurants around the world.

Led by the chef Nello Cassese the restaurant won a Michelin star this year and ranked 77th among the best restaurants in Latin America in Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants. The restaurant has a tasting menu that varies between 11 and 14 courses, which combines classic Italian flavors in unique and original dishes.

“I wanted to bring a more modern and lighter Italian cuisine, without losing touch with its essence. I was very moved by the award. It is a great pride to represent my country in Brazil and even more so to have a team that understands the meaning of Italian culinary tradition”, celebrates Nello, who was born in Naples.

The chef’s work was described by the awards as “elegant in flavor and presentation”, as well as full of “technique, heart and selected ingredients”. Ristorante Hotel Cipriani also received the D’Amico Award, which marks the best performance of the year.

Among the main dishes served at the Rio restaurant are risotto with sour butter, urchin emulsion, smoked oyster, crustacean essential oil, red miso and sea lettuce air.

There is also the “Tonno Mediterraneo”, composed of two preparations with bluefin tuna: one hot, with fermented strawberry puree and burnt peppers, watermelon pickles and sea asparagus; and another cold, with cured fish breast, tomato sorbet and smoked buffalo mozzarella foam.

Dry aged beef, aged between 40 and 50 days, is also highlighted, as it is grilled and served with ciambotta and tomato emulsion, meat and smoked whiskey syrup.

Among the desserts, there is a version of tiramisù with crunch and coffee granita, mascarpone foam, kefir and meringue chips. Finally, the restaurant has its own gelato service, which is freshly churned, served at the table and can be changed according to what is freshest in the kitchen.

It is worth noting that the restaurant still has the “Chef’s table ”, an experience just a few meters from the kitchen with exclusive steps and pairings.

The ranking

In addition to Rio, Italian restaurants in Paris, Toronto, Shanghai and New York, for example, were in the top 10 of the best global addresses this year.

In vice-leadership appears the Il Carpaccio in Paris, France, which is located inside the Royal Monceau hotel and is led by the duo Oliver Piras and Alessandra Del Favero.

Closing the podium is the DaNico in Toronto, Canada, also with a Michelin star. The Italian house is led by chef Daniele Corona.
