The economic advisor of Fecomercio, Altamiro Carvalho, evaluated that the result of the sales of the Brazilian retail trade – which brought an advance of 0.9% in April compared to March – is very positive for the moment.
THE CNN Radio he stated that the data “really proved positive despite moderate growth, evidencing a consolidation trend of post-pandemic recovery.”
The advisor highlighted that, in this fourth consecutive month of rise, there are “differentiated movements between activities, with incisive growth of some and others with sharp drops.”
“In general, retail is taking a breather to get out of the pandemic period, rebuilding its structure in a safer way.”
For Altamiro, there is no doubt that “the most consistent recovery is in clothing, fabric and footwear stores”, which, in March, grew 81% compared to last year and now had a new high of 34%.
“They are on a recovery path, not without reason, as they are the ones who suffered the most during the pandemic and are now acutely recovering all losses”, he added.
On the other hand, the results were not so good in the area of building materials, which explains why it now returns to normal levels after achieving the best activity in 2020 and 2021, and also in the area of electronics.
The improvement in the retail sector, according to the Fecomercio advisor, is due to 4 elements: fall in the number of unemployed, credit growth, emergency withdrawal of the FGTS and the anticipation of the 13th salary.
