Sales in the Brazilian retail trade were practically stable in August, compared to the previous month, with a variation of -0.1%, informed the IBGE this Friday (7th). In July, the sector had a decline of 0.5%, according to a revised calculation.
In comparison with August 2021, the sector registers a growth of 1.6% and, in the year, an increase of 0.5%. In the last 12 months, the drop is 1.4%.
Market expectations were for a monthly drop of 0.2% and stability in the annual comparison, according to a Reuters survey.
The institute highlights that, in August, the sector had the third consecutive month of negative rate, accumulating a loss of 2.5% in the period.
The volume of sales in broad trade, which includes the activities of vehicles, motorcycles, parts and pieces and construction material, had a decrease of 0.6% in August, in the monthly comparison, and a decrease of 0.7%, compared to August. of 2021.
